Where can I light my campfire?

The firepit legs are around 22cm keeping the heat away from the ground. Unless you are a lawn fetishist, the answer is light your fire anywhere sensible. A stone, board, or wetting can all be used to prevent the ground being singed if necessary. See where to light camp fires.

Does a hot lighted fire pit damage grass?

Experience shows that if you water the place where you are about to place your firepit, or place a small plank of wood directly under it you will have little or no permenent damage. The screw in legs are 22cm long. The tops of the grass may go brown but as soon as it rains they will grow again; they are not killed by the fire.

What is the best Wood to use?

Dry wood. Kiln dried wood is excellent if you are going to buy wood. For kotlich cooking you need kindling and upper arm sized logs.

Can you cook with a kotlich over briquette logs?

We have not tried. My advice is to check your fire material for toxic ingredients.

Is it safe to cook on the patio?

Yes. The 22cm removable legs on the firepit keep the fire well off the ground. Just make sure that the tripod legs are steady on the flagstones.

Can I light my campfire if it is windy?

Yes. Find a makeshift wind break. Or buy one of our wind protectors currently being made.

Can I cook if it's raining?

Yes. Once the fire is lit and you hang the pot over the flames the fire is protected from the rain.

Is a kotlich better than cooking with a barbecue?

Cooking with a kotlich is a very different experience to a barbecue. The kotlich pot hangs on a chain over a camp fire and is very easy to move, you can cook as soon as you have lit the fire, and there is no smell of burning fat.
